Halfbak3d Sports is a Tampa-based HyperReal Sports Media studio founded by Jeremy Pohl. We build character-driven sports shows that turn moments into perspective — not just recap.

Welcome to Halfbak3d Sports

Halfbak3d Sports is sports storytelling for people who want more than the recap. Not because you “need coverage,” but because the moment deserves a better afterlife than a box score screenshot. We take what just happened and reframe it—the confidence, the panic, the spiral, the delusion, the laugh you can’t explain to someone who didn’t watch—and we write it like it mattered.

Halfbak3d is built like a studio slate. Different shows own different lanes—different sports, different comedic energy, different voices—under the same Halfbak3d banner. Some lanes feel like a desk that can’t help but stamp a verdict. Some feel like a room where everyone’s talking at once. Some feel like a straight shot from one voice that refuses to blink. The lane changes because the format and voice change, but the point stays the same: make the moment land.

In plain terms, Halfbak3d is made from two pieces: The Lineup and The Bench. The Lineup is the programming—the shows. The Bench is the cast—eight characters who make the voices recognizable and keep each show feeling like itself instead of sliding into generic sports-blog tone. If you land on the homepage, you’ll always see what each lane dropped most recently, right up front. That’s on purpose: Halfbak3d should be easy to step into, even if you haven’t been around for everything.

The name for what we do is HyperReal Sports Media— a way of telling real sports through recurring formats and voices so the mood of the moment survives the summary. Halfbak3d Sports is created and run by Jeremy Pohl, based in Tampa, Florida. On the site you’ll also see pOe—the fictional version of me used as an on-site identity/voice. If you want the longer “how I accidentally built a studio” story, it’s here: https://halfbak3dsports.com/who-am-i-how-i-accidentally-built-a-studio/

The Lineup

The Lineup is the slate—your shows, your lanes, the different ways Halfbak3d handles sports without turning into the same voice every time. Each show has a purpose, a sport focus (or a focus on a certain kind of sports behavior), and a tone that stays consistent. The whole point is that Halfbak3d has range, but it still feels like Halfbak3d: different flavors, same care, same smile, same commitment to making the moment land.

Halfbak3d also has a rhythm. The slate is built around day-themes, so the week has a shape. It’s not a “you must keep up” thing—it’s just the way the studio stays organized and the way the shows get space to breathe. Monday is for Monday Morning Regret, the aftermath desk that kicks the week off by reframing what just happened. Tuesday is the Tampa Bay / baseball lane—that’s where Always Rays lives, and Tuesday can also hold things like Not A Role Model or mock drafts when the moment calls for it. Wednesday is hockey: Puck Around & Find Out. Thursday is basketball: SIZES (Small Hoops, Tiny Plays, Big Feelings, Huge Ego). Friday is Footy Friday, which means Shin Guard Chronicles.

The weekend lanes are where the slate can get weirder in the best way. Tales From the Office is a weekend home—Crypt Keeper Jerry territory. Not A Role Model can also live on a weekend when it needs room. And when football season is back in full swing, Boom Been Finessed takes over a Friday release slot, because that lane deserves a clean runway when the sport is loudest.

Here’s the Lineup in plain language—one sentence each, no spoilers:

  • Monday Morning Regret (MMR): The aftermath desk that reframes the biggest moments with a smile and stamps the emotional truth without dragging you through a recap.
  • Always Rays: The Tampa Bay baseball lane—stress, humor, and clean reframes from the Rays corner of the world.
  • Puck Around & Find Out (PUCK): Hockey with chirps, standards, and consequences—quick reads that feel like they came from the room, not a recap desk.
  • SIZES (Small Hoops, Tiny Plays, Big Feelings, Huge Ego): NBA written with big energy—tiny plays turned into huge meaning, because hoops does that to people and we’re not pretending it doesn’t.
  • Shin Guard Chronicles (SGC): Soccer written at group-chat speed—messy, loud, and honest in the way the sport actually behaves.
  • Not A Role Model (NARM): Character-led reframing of sports figures that stays funny and sharp without turning into a lecture.
  • Boom Been Finessed (BBF): The Buccaneers lane—pirate posture, full commitment, and Tampa-flavored chaos when the moment calls for it.
  • Tales From the Office (TFTO): Crypt Keeper Jerry takes the mic for a sports-comedy monologue—sports told like warped “wisdom” from the chair, equal parts ego, menace, and that smile you don’t fully trust.

The Bench

The Bench is Halfbak3d’s cast of voices. Sports doesn’t hit you in one mood, so Halfbak3d doesn’t write in one voice. The Bench is how the slate stays varied without turning random: different characters bring different energy, different angles, and different kinds of humor—so each lane can feel like itself. You don’t need to “learn” anything to enjoy it. The names just help the writing stay recognizable, so when a character shows up, you already know what kind of ride you’re on.

  • pOe: Lead Anchor— laid-back, confident, quick with the smile, and always looking for the clean reframe. Shows up in Monday Morning Regret and SIZES.
  • Seraleia: Lead Host — Halfbak3d’s quiet instigator: observant, patient, never rushed, and always dangerous with a single line. Shows up in Monday Morning Regret and runs Not A Role Model.
  • Boltsy: Chirp Correspondent — hockey-coded, loud, and all standards; chirps like it’s a public service and doesn’t let the lane get soft.
  • The Kid: Walk-On Sideline Assassin — quick, curious, and a little reckless; lives in tunnels, locker rooms, benches, and fallout; asks questions that look harmless until you realize they’re loaded with internet receipts. Shows up everywhere—as long as it’s before curfew.
  • Sir Finesse of the High Score: Pirate Commentator — talks from the deck like every sport is open water: tides, cannon smoke, plunder, omens, and swagger in every sentence. Football—and the Buccaneers—are home port, but he’ll sail into any sport when the seas get loud and the moment deserves a captain.
  • Boom: Momentum Omen — a living cannonbird (yes, an actual creature), playful trouble; whenever he’s around, the moment gets louder and the confidence gets irrational. Partners in crime with Sir Finesse of the High Score. Shows up in Boom Been Finessed, Monday Morning Regret, Shin Guard Chronicles, and Side Quests.
  • Bakki3: Social Media Guru — runs the Halfbak3d social media presence and keeps Shin Guard Chronicles moving as the chat admin. Also blamed for everything at Halfbak3d.
  • Crypt Keeper Jerry: Front Office Cryptkeeper — the smiling menace in the chair: warped “wisdom,” big ego, and a calm confidence that makes everything sound like it was always part of the plan. Shows up in Tales From the Office (TFTO).

Membership

Membership is currently free for early supporters. All core shows will always be free, but members get the keys to the studio—voting on new characters, suggesting show ideas, and helping decide which lanes we build next.
